Navient Loan Performance Modeling Analyst in Wilmington, Delaware
The Credit Risk Management group is a high performing and highly visible team, whose primary mission is to provide key business and performance intelligence to executive management that enables accurate, efficient, and optimal credit and financial management, oversight and decision making. The loan performance, modeling and research analyst position will be responsible for performing the production, maintenance and development of analysis and models that support the company's credit risk management and financial operations. The individual will develop and maintain models used to identify and track current trends and forecast future performance while also performing ad-hoc analysis and reporting on specific areas of the portfolio as defined by business needs.
This role will support the quarterly production, validation, and presentation of the loss forecast and key accounting assumptions, including short and long-term default expectations, recovery/severity estimates, and portfolio prepayment rates. In addition, the analyst will support the Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) implementation by performing on-going and ad hoc reporting and analysis on loan portfolio performance to assist in the development and on-going maintenance and execution of financial models. The incumbent must be technical and detail-oriented as they will be responsible for ensuring the model is accurate, efficient, and using the most appropriate forecasting techniques and be able to manipulate, segment and analyze large datasets. This position will provide analysis to other business areas that lack the expertise or access to information requiring strong communication skills and the ability to work well within groups. The individual will be required to discuss forecasts with management and will be required to interface with groups that support the collections of our loans.
The typical model production process involves input source data review and validation, programmatic model processing and execution, quantitative analysis of model outputs in both SAS and excel, manual review of the model results, post-production analysis to understand and explain key drivers of performance, execution of a very robust control and validation framework, and written and verbal analysis and presentation of the model results delivered to senior management.
Essential Job Functions:
Research and Development -- Execute analysis supporting the implementation of CECL including model development support, verification and validation of model results, and on-going execution and necessary enhancements needed to meet business needs and regulatory requirements.
Modeling -- Support processes to update and run models on a quarterly basis. Assist in updating and preparing deliverables for committee meetings. Assist in briefing the committees, including executive management, on model output results. Work with counterparts in other groups to track model uses, understand impact of assumption changes and provide guidance on application of results. Identify and implement model enhancements.
Analysis: -- Execute ad hoc reporting, analysis and various analytics to support the understanding and application of the results. Conduct analysis that answers key questions posed by management relative to loan performance.
Reporting -- Update standard reporting packages for monthly and quarterly processes. Make executive level presentations to Senior Management about the results of forecasting and analytics and their impact on the business. Work on the continuous enhancement of reporting.
Data and Infrastructure Support --Identify and understand the data sources used in modeling. Assist in monitoring and testing data needed to drive reporting and analysis.
Bachelor's Degree - Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or Finance
2-4 years of related modeling/analytical experience/forecasting methodologies
2-4 years of experience in Excel
1+ year of data extraction and transformation experience
Experience in R, Python, SQL and/or SAS
Background in finance, economics, credit, data science, math/statistics, or marketing analytics
